Official opening Pilot Readiness Center at Soesterberg, NL
May 18, 2022
Today, the Pilot Readiness Center (PRC) was officially opened at the Center for Man and Aviation (CML).
And that’s good news! This means that our pilots no longer have to go all the way to America for this, but now stand outside within one hour with an F-35 helmet with custom-made interior and optimally aligned visor. And they can fly the same day. In addition, there is the possibility on the CML to test the helmet dynamically in the centrifuge and / or unique Desdemona simulator. A possibility that did not exist in America, so that pilots sometimes had to go up and down again and could not fly for five weeks.
With the establishment of the PRC, it is now possible to measure the essential parts of the F-35 helmet in Soesterberg, actually make them yourself on location and to be allowed to tinker with items. The CML collaborates with TNO and other knowledge institutes under the name AEOLUS on projects to improve human functioning in extreme conditions. The further development of the F-35 helmet and the establishment of the PRC is one of them.
It is the first PRC outside the United States and the CML may also offer the PRC service to foreign units. With this, the PRC also ensures new international collaborations.
